Philippe Dupuy---Left
1999 Award for Best French Comic Book at the Angoulême International Comics Festival / 2008 Grand Prix of Angoulême International Comics Festival / Solo Exhibition in Louvre Museum (2013) / Illustrations artist for New Yorker Magazine
In 2017, Philippe got sever tendonitis at his right hand, the hand that he used for drawing, all the sudden, he couldn’t even hold a pen. During the treatment, he has tried to draw with his left hand, and discovered that it changed not only the style but also the way of thinking. From that on, he learnt to let it go, letting his left hand took over. In LEFT, we’re able to see how it actually looked like letting left hand to think but not brain. Philippe wasn’t afraid of exposing his weakness to public, and this is also how comic art touches people, for it’s sincerity, as it has always be.
